"The challenge of using a textbook to teach phonological analysis is to strike the right balance between learning-by-reading and learning-by-doing. Bruce Hayes meets this challenge for us with this textbook. His writing is clear and accessible, and his thoughtful organizational choices promote a deep understanding of the goals of phonological analysis."
