Poppy Lambert is thrilled to return to Woolacombe Bay, a place that holds happy childhood memories of holidays spent with her gran at Rowan Cottage. Looking forward to her new post as practice nurse at Bramblewood Surgery, she feels as if the lone call of a sandpiper is singing her home. Indeed, it's her dream to buy back the cottage as soon as she can afford to. Its slightly spooky atmosphere has never bothered her.
As the new tenant of Rowan Cottage, Dr Sam Brocklehurst feels he's found a place he can put down roots. He first sees Poppy out for an early morning run and the attraction is instant, but Poppy has had her heart broken once already and is now determinedly single. Thrown together with Sam at work, however, she is drawn to him against her will. They date, but their relationship unravels after Poppy's trust is broken in an unexpected way. She makes plans to leave Devon. But can Sam convince her to stay?
