Description
"Jewels of Wisdom" is a translation of a selection of Hadith or teachings of Muhammad, peace be upon him. All major aspects of human life related to individual and collective personality and morality have been illuminated in the light of the Sunnah or Way of the Messenger of God, peace be upon him. This text was compiled at the beginning of the 1950's at the request of Mawlana Mawdudi, and consists of four hundred and one ahadith, mainly selected from Mishkat al-Masabih of al-Khatib al-Tabrizi and al-Adab al-Mufrad of Imam Bukhari. From individual dealings to international relations, there is no significant aspect of life that has been neglected. This text provides many of the basic Islamic teachings for individuals, communities and governments. There is parallel text in Arabic.

Shaykh 'Abdul Ghaffar Hasan of Delhi (1913-2006) studied with many of the great Hadith masters of his home town. His isnad or chain of authorities consisted of just twenty-three people between him and the Prophet, peace be upon him. The chain contains authorities such as Shah Waliullah of Delhi, Shawkani of Yemen, Ibn Hajar of Ashkelon, Imam Bukhari and the rest of the six canonical hadith transmitters of the Sunni tradition. Shaykh Hasan taught Hadith in India, Pakistan and for sixteen years at the Islamic University in Madinah, Saudi Arabia. He also served for over a decade on the Islamic Ideological Council, a panel of religious scholars that advises the Government of Pakistan.
