Death's Gift

Offering penetrating insights throughout, Harvey demonstrates that fruitful parallels can be drawn between the modern experience of bereavement and what happened to the disciples following the death of Jesus. In drawing out a range of such parallels - as well as insisting on significant differences - Harvey shows that Jesus' resurrection is intelligible only in the context of a particular bereavement which, in its turn, informs our own sense of mortality. According to Harvey, death an bereavement, when touched by resurrection, can yield a new richer relationship to the person who has died and the opportunity for personal growth in those who survive.
