The Japanese Approach to Tomorrow's Workplace

This is the first in a series on international developments in office design. The authors - a multidisciplinary team of professionals in engineering, architecture, and facilities management - completed in-depth building diagnostic evaluations of advanced workplaces in Japan, including studies of the Toshiba Headquarters, the NTT Twins Regional Headquarters, the ARK Mori building and the Umeda Center Building. Along with the building study results, the authors also present their philosophy and a paradigm for field evaluation of advanced workplaces, as well as an evolving list of major design changes in the design of tomorrow's workplaces. Their approach is contingent on a multidisciplinary team of experts working interactively to reach a consensus on significant building innovations.
