Description
*Very substantial revision incorporating recent advances *Extensive literature review citing up-to-date key references *ICD-10 and DSM-IV *Popular format of headings and lists retained *Remains a key revision aid and a comprehensive review of psychiatry.
Widely regarded as a popular and essential part of the MRCPsych candidates armament this third edition has been radically revised and extended. It brings all of the curriculum topics of the Part II exam up-to-date and includes 1995 references where appropriate. Recent developments such as novel treatments (Clozapine), community psychiatry initiatives, and advances in biological psychiatry (eg. AIDS, Alzheimer's Disease) are be fully dealt with. The aim of the book is to help psychiatric trainees with their revision and the text is presented in the form of definitions, key facts, figures and lists. It was never intended as a substitute for wider reading, rather it is an aide-memoire both as a prelude to the exam and thereafter. The original team of Dr Bird and Dr Harrison are now joined by Dr Peter Buckley. He is closely involved in post-graduate education in the USA and his contribution gives the book added emphasis in terms of classification and cited research. This ensures the book's appeal not only in its traditional strongholds but also in North America and Australasia.
