The main argument of the contributions to this book is that the National Curriculum proposals for English need to be set within an historical, social, political and educational context. This book covers all key stages in the English part of the National Curriculum, but also tries to relate the use of language to other disciplines. It deals with speaking, listening, reading and writing, but also covers such topics as language study and teaching standard English.
