Fly home to your heart is such a wonderful book. It's part memoir interspersed with the most beautiful poetry connected to the prose and amazing paintings that illustrate the poems. I found the book to be life-affirming and helpful to my life. Anyone going through turbulent times would find this book inspiring, but equally, it's just such a great book to dip in and out of to enjoy the poems and drawings in their own right.. Reading this book gave me a warm feeling. It is such an innovative idea to explore our own life cycles through that of birds. I laughed and cried and was able to relate to so many aspects of this journey in a very safe way. The way that the book takes you from a piece of writing to a poem and then to the beautiful illustrations seems to flow effortlessly. Fly home to your heart captures the beauty of nature in the inspirational poems and prose and creative paintings full of movement and testament of the birds especially. But under the surface is a deeply emotional journey of Kate's personal experiences, some special and happy some more traumatic which she has managed to overcome by immersing herself in the peace and solace of the Cornish countryside.
