Description
Cystic fibrosis is one of the commonest inherited diseases. The children who suffer from it have defects in their lungs (cystic fibrosis is the commonest cause of chronic bronchitis in childhood), digestive system, and sweat glands; the severity of the symptoms varies from person to person. The exact cause of the disease is as yet unknown, but vigorous treatment - physiotherapy of the chest, and a strict diet - results in greatly improved health, although treatment is life-long and extremely hard work for the parents. This book highlights what is known about CF, the genetics, symptoms, and treatment, and also discusses psychological aspects. There are also excerpts written by children with CF. It has been written for parents and all those who care for children with CF. Parents and medical staff who care for children with CF; general practitioners; nurses.
