Lewis Hamilton was born in Stevenage, Hertfordshire in January 1985. By the age of eight he was racing karts, at ten he drove to his first British championship, and at thirteen he was signed to the McLaren team. He made his F1 debut at the 2007 Australian GP and won in Canada, USA, Hungary and Japan during that season, finishing second in the World Drivers' Championship.
Lewis became World Champion in 2008 with the McLaren team, and did likewise with Mercedes in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. Only Michael Schumacher can equal Lewis' astonishing haul of seven World Drivers' Championships. So far he was won 105 Grands Prix, the most in F1 history.
He currently drives for Scuderia Ferrari.
Lewis was awarded the OBE in 2009 and was knighted in 2021.
