Description
The Blue Connection begins with a blue ballpoint pen discovered in the window of a Santa Fee jeweller by the color designers and editors Monika Haag and Mark Woodman. The purchase of this unique piece, crafted from lapis lazuli, became the catalyst for a passionate discussion about the color blue. Soon, the universal quality of this hue became clear, connecting us far beyond cultures, traditions, borders, gender and age. The world of art, science, design, fashion and architecture is universally linked to this shade of emotion, of nature and the cosmos, of water, the sky and an infinite space. Blue has many faces and recently evolved as a programmatic color increasingly identified with sustainability, health, peace and global responsibility. Blue seems omnipresent, always accessible and naturally attainable with endless associations and connections. Thus, the pen from Santa Fee began its journey to the authors, from Europe to China and on to the US - and came back with a wide variety of perspectives on blue.
This bilingual German/English edition explores blue as a universal color in 15 illustrated contributions from international design professionals including architects and artists, designer and chemists, scientists and philosophers to photographers, engineers and divers. The Blue Connection enriches the reader with its empathic potential for an open and universal discourse to conclude with a cutting edge look into recent research on color perception approaching the frontiers of quantum physics.

Industrie Designerin und Colour Consultant
Monika Haag CMG, is a graduate industrial designer, color and trend expert, business coach and certified trainer. Born and graduating from high school in Kassel, Germany she started her career as a carpenter specializing in wood-based materials. Her daily workshop routines finally triggered her interest in design. In 1990 she earned her diploma in industrial design at the Academy of fine Arts in Hamburg which offered her a wide range of professional networking options with architects, artists and designers. She soon joined Matthias Hoffmann's design team in Tübingen, developing upholstered furniture and exhibition architecture for renowned manufacturers. In 1997, she changed industries and started at the foil manufacturer Konrad Hornschuch (Hohenlohe), who entrusted her with the management of the design development studio after a short time. In 2000 she accepted the offer of Pfleiderer Holzwerkstoffe (Neumarkt) and took over their design department. Since 2003, Monika has been in charge of corporate design management at RENOLIT SE (Worms), the manufacturer of high-performance films and materials in the B2B sector as the world market leader. Here she implemented today's trendsetter position of this globally acting company and established the Colour Road trend service as an independent brand, delivering cutting-edge advice today, when it comes to RENOLIT's key customers and global players in the development of industrial color and design concepts. As the primary in-house contact for architects, she partners naturally with universities and serves as a jury member in international competitions. As a recognized trend expert and member of the Color Marketing Group Management Board (CMG), she is responsible for the entire Asia-Pacific region. This makes her part of a global network of trend and fashion institutes, color institutions and creative personalities, contributing regularly lectures and trend articles to the international color-design community in Asia, Europe and the US. Sharing experience and implementing basics combined with cutting-edge know how turned out as a key-factor for success. An individual approach, effective communication and emotional engagement became indispensable factors to create new and unexpected connections, putting enthusiasm and passion high up on her list. This multilayered experience echoes today in her recent formation as a certified business coach and trainer and made team building a key to successfully work within the company. But this also sheds light on her personal commitment as an authoress and her personal style as co-editor of The Blue Connection.
