A-Z of Hull

Kingston upon Hull has witnessed huge changes in its history. The city's position on the confluence of the River Hull and the Humber estuary enabled it to grow into a major port and trading centre, with fishing and whaling as significant industries. Hull's industrial importance meant the city suffered devastating aerial bombardment during World War 2 and the decline in fishing and other traditional industries in the postwar era has meant that much of the city has had to be rebuilt or regenerated in recent decades.
