Rambler's Rewards is a cookery book using produce found along the coast to coast route - a great fish pie with fish from Whitby, traditional lamb from the Yorkshire Dales, sausage pie with Cumberland sausage meat.
With recipes and landscapes wonderfully photographed by Derry Brabbs, the book follows a walk through the day - from hearty and healthy breakfasts, through to lunch at home or on the move, tea time treats and suggestions for supper. The recipes are either quick and easy to prepare at the end of a busy day or could have been prepared in advance and frozen, refrigerated or left on a timer for when you get in.
Inspired by years of walking and holidaying along the Coast to Coast route, the recipes inspire you to plan a great day out as well as celebrating the variety and abundance of wonderful produce available in the North of England. This book uses wonderful foods produced along the route in recipes that are simple to prepare after a long day's walking. His stunning colour photographs for the worldwide best-seller James Herriot's Yorkshire contributed to its success. He is the author of several beautifully photographed titles celebrating England's landscape and architectural legacy.

Elizabeth Guy's family moved to Stalling Busk, a tiny hamlet in Wensleydale, North Yorkshire when she was ten years old. Her parents, through their smallholding, lived "the good life", with a jersey cow which yielded rich milk, always a pig in the barn for homemade bacon, sausages and meat and of course a potato patch.
After moving back to Wensleydale following University and a spell in London, Elizabeth opened Humble Pie, a delicatessen & fresh food takeaway. Well before it became popular and before the advent of Farmer's markets, it was important to her to use local ingredients whenever possible. In June 2006, Elizabeth filmed a series of ten cookery demonstrations as part of BBC1's "Countryfile - The Summer Diaries". She lives in Askrigg, Wensleydale, with her three daughters and her partner Bruce, a farmer.
Pat Kirkbride has three great passions in life - hill walking, her two collie dogs and a love of good food.
Pat grew up on a traditional hill farm in Wensleydale, and developed a natural understanding of the connection between the landscape and the different breeds that land will support. Each farmer's unique knowledge of the area's climate combined with good breeding and animal husbandry will result in the finest end product.
Born with a love of walking, Pat is at her happiest when out of doors, and finds it truly fascinating that in the 191 miles that is the Coast to Coast walk, the produce available is so diverse. She has been lucky enough to visit a small selection of producers from along the walk and shares those experiences in the book.
Her love of good food, comes from her mother, Doreen Whitehead, who is a wonderful cook and shares her experiences of running a farmhouse B&B in this book.
Pat lives in Snaizeholme, just outside Hawes, with her husband and son, and two collie dogs.
