Principles of Structural Design

Timber, steel, and reinforced concrete are common engineering materials used for designing and constructing structures. The choice of the material depends on the type of structure, availability of materials, and preferences of the designer and builder. For each material, design methods and code requirements are extremely different. This book presents the elemental designs of individual components of each material, coupled with the theory of structures essential for design. Many examples are included, followed up by case studies of the designs of complete structures with respect to each material. The appendices include data on material properties, section properties, specifications, and needed design aids.
