Sports Coaching and Teaching

With the advent of National Vocational Qualifications, this book addresses the need for a book dealing specifically with officially recognised coaching skills. The book aims to help instructors at all levels understand what is formally required of them and how they can go about obtaining the necessary qualifications. The author describes the four coaching levels - assistant coach, coach, senior coach and advanced coach - and explains what special training may be necessary to meet the requirements of each qualification. There is advice on a wide range of subjects, from the coach's responsibilities, demonstration techniques and teaching styles, to assessment of practitioners, safety, managing a club and developing technical excellence. This title will be important for coaches in all sports, and will be supportive of the Sports Council, the National Coaching Foundation and the British Institute of Sports Coaches.
