Description
Compiling the works of artist Mikhail Karikis made in the past decade, the text block of the monograph For Many Voices includes critical and philosophical essays in dialogue with his artistic practice.
Closely collaborating with children, elderly and disabled people confronted with alarming issues of labour and ecology, Karikis challenges the boundaries between actors and those acted upon, exploring the revolutionary potential of sound and embodied voice. What are the actual desires and demands of those who are mostly overheard? How can their voices be authentically expressed through artistic means? How to avoid speaking on behalf of the seemingly voiceless but let them speak for themselves?
With text contributions by Katerina Gregos, Ella Finer, Salomé Voegelin, Hannes Schumacher, Mami Kataoka and with a conversation between Elinor Morgan and Mikhail Karikis
Edited by Hannes Schumacher and Elinor Morgan
