Description
This collection of essays reflects the interest in colonialism and postcolonialism across the whole field of the humanities and the social sciences. It focuses in particular on the production of space, the intersections between the modalities of power and knowledge, and the materialities of landscape, place and space. The book is divided into sections which discuss: strategies and tactics of exploration and colonial rule; imaginative geographies of colonialism, neocolonialism and postcolonialism; processes of uneven and unequal development; lived spaces of resistance and counter-memory; territorialisation and deterritorialisation; travel, tourism and production of "other" spaces; travelling theory, hybridity, and the politics of intellectual interventions. The essays range widely in subject matter, from India and South Africa, from Egypt to the Congo, and from the Peruvian Andes to colonial North America.
