Description
A complete introduction and resource guide that provides rules, scripts and questions necessary to hold a Battle of the Books, an exciting competition that brings students and good books together. Titles included here were selected to encourage students to read the best literature available. This second edition includes 2,367 questions from 509 books, mostly published after the first edition of Name That Book (Scarecrow, 1986), as well as questions from 280 Newbery winners, Caldecott winners, and classics that were included in the first edition. Questions and books are organized according to grade level and difficulty. A final chapter suggests additional activities to be used in conjunction with the Battle of the Books, including bulletin boards, curriculum units, games, crossword puzzles, and bingo. Author, subject and title indexes and appendixes with examples of a game script, a letter to parents, author birthdays and author birthplaces are also provided.
