Ausgehend von der zentralen Frage, wie Ursachen von Korruption studiert werden, ist das Ziel der Herausgeber, die Konzeptualisierungen von Korruption innerhalb verschiedener Denkschulen zusammenzubringen. In insgesamt zehn Beiträgen wird deshalb nicht nur versucht zu verstehen, was Akteure bewegt, entgegen ihrer in der Öffentlichkeit propagierten Ideale zu handeln. Deutlich werden auch die Stärken und Schwächen der jeweiligen wissenschaftlichen Herangehensweise. [...] Diese zahlreichen Perspektiven verdeutlichen insgesamt die Komplexität des Forschungsgegenstandes, der Band stellt somit eine geeignete Einführung in das Thema als auch einen Ausgangspunkt für ein eigenes Forschungsdesign dar.

The Good Cause [...] is then a much welcome attempt to bring together a variety of theoretical perspectives to investigate the competing definitions of corruption and develop theoretical frameworks with which to inform future research. The theory of corruption is likened to a maze and the book takes the reader, via various theoretical routes, through the entrances and exits, as well as the inevitable blind alleys and dead ends, to the study of corruption.
