George W. Govier is a retired professor of chemical engineering and dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Alberta. He was a pioneer in research and is the author of numerous publications on the flow of gas-liquid mixtures in vertical and horizontal pipes, as well as a consultant on the flow of two-phase and non-Newtonian systems. Following his teaching and research career, Govier joined Alberta's Energy Resources Conservation Board, where he served as chairman for 10 years. He is the recipient of several honorary degrees and numerous awards, including SPE's Anthony F. Lucas Gold Medal.
