Marjorie Gordon (née Texeira) was born in Kolar Gold Fields, in the south of India. She was a teacher in New Delhi before she immigrated to Canada in 1969. While her teaching credentials were not recognized in Canada, she became a preschool teacher and later a supervisor of several large daycare centres in Ottawa. She led one of the first centres to integrate children with complex disabilities. She had to take on several hard issues during her career, including explaining her skin colour to children who had not met someone who looked like her. She was warm and loving and put children and her dogs first throughout her life, and loved her husband immensely.
