Falling Angel

Falling Angel is the story of a young man, his thoughts and motivations, and the backdrop of tragedy and abuse that shaped his early life. With narration by Angel's younger brother, we learn that the boys' drug-addicted mother has been murdered and they are living with their abusive father and power-hungry stepmother. Angel receives the worst of the abuse, and begins to steal, smoke, and run away from home. Angel's story is rich and complex, taking the reader through his life on the street to the terrifying reality of Trenton State Prison. Throughout the book, the harshness of the characters' lives and their environment is juxtaposed against moments of joy and wonder, innocence, and first kisses.
