True-amplitude multicomponent migration of elastic wavefields

Kirchhoff Tiefenmigration ist ein Abbildungsverfahren, mit Hilfe dessen an der Erdoberfläche gemessene reflexionsseismische Daten in ein strukturelles Abbild des Untergrundes transformiert werden können. Mathematisch ist das Verfahren verwandt mit der Kirchhoffsche Integraldarstellung der skalaren Wellengleichung und daher ursprünglich nur für die Abbildung akustischer Wellen anwendbar. In dieser Arbeit wird der skalare Ansatz erweitert um das mit Mehrkomponentenempfängern registrierte elastische Wellenfeld verarbeiten zu können. Hierbei muss die Polarisation des an einer Schichtgrenze reflektierten Wellentyps beachtet werden. Damit die resultierende Amplitude des Abbildes einer physikalischen Größe (in diesem Fall die Reflektivität der Schichtgrenze) zugeordnet werden kann, muss während des Abbildungsprozesses gewichtet werden. Für eine elastische Multikomponentenmigration hängen diese Gewichtsfunktionen vom betrachteten Wellentyp ab. Es wird gezeigt, dass mit dieser Methode die elastische Streumatrix von betrachteten Reflektorelementen vollständig bestimmt werden kann.

Kirchhoff depth migration is an imaging process that transforms reflection seismic data measured at the surface into the depth domain in order to obtain a structural image of the subsurface. Mathematically, it is related to the Kirchhoff integral representation of the scalar acoustic wave equation and, hence, originally only suitable for imaging of compressional (P) waves. In this thesis, the scalar approach to Kirchhoff imaging is extended to handle the full elastic wavefield recorded with multicomponent receivers by considering the polarization of respective wave modes scattered at an interface. In order to relate the resulting amplitude of the migrated image to a physical property (in this case the interface reflectivity), a weight has to be applied during migration. These weight functions change for each scattering mode in the case of elastic multicomponent migration. It is shown, that the method allows to retrieve the full elastic scattering matrix of target reflectors.
