Callus Distraction

In a short period of time, callus distraction has become a significant method in traumatology and orthopaedics. This biologic procedure - hardly invasive and causing only a minor burden for the patient, allows lengthening of the extremities and treatment of expansive osseous segment defects in a short time. The sometimes extensive weightbearing defects are avoided by waiting after removal of the compacta before distracting the callus. Aimed particurly at accident and paediatric surgeons, orthopaedists and physiotherapists, this work covers treatment methods and concepts, indications, informing the patient, planning the operation, surgical techniques, post-operative management and clinical cases.
