Description
This is a detailed practical guide for all fractures of the hand and carpus (from the wrist down, but excluding distal radial fractures). Hand fractures constitute 25 per cent of all fractures and are treated by a wide range of specialists, ranging from orthopaedic surgeons to general practitioners, many of whom are unfortunately unclear on the proper treatment method for such fractures. This book systematically addresses all possible hand fracture patterns with illustrative radiographs (X-rays). Thus, a reader can see a patient, take a radiograph of the injury and find an almost exact match to one in the book, and thus be guided as to the correct treatment supported by clear practical instructions. The treatments described emphasise simple, practical and reliable treatments and can be successfully applied in most medical settings. Thus, the book is applicable in both First and Third World countries. Versions of this study guide have been trialled in orthopaedic and A&E departments in different hospitals in the UK.
It is an easy-to-use reference for a range of medical and non-medical staff with variable experience including nurses, junior and senior hospital doctors and general practitioners.
