Description
A gorgeous exploration in word and image, Light Strings pairs master photographer Ralph Gibson with ex-Police guitarist Andy Summers to produce a sumptuous ode to the guitar. Light Strings is a unique collaboration between two masters of their crafts - photographer Ralph Gibson and former guitarist for the Police, Andy Summers - in homage to their favourite instrument. Gibson's enigmatic, classically elegant, and sensuous photographs are the visual counterpart to Summers' lyrical history and methodical physical exploration of the instrument; together they create a poetic meditation on the guitar. With over one hundred alluring images that capture the graceful curves and details of the instrument, Light Strings

Ralph Gibson studied photography while in the US Navy and then at the San Francisco Art Institute. He began his professional career as an assistant to Dorothea Lange and went on to work with Robert Frank on two films. His photographs are included in over two hundred museum collections around the world, and have appeared in hundreds of exhibitions. Gibson's awards include fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim and the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as the Leica Medal of Exellence and the Silver Plumb Award form the Landmarks Preservation Committee. Andy Summers remains one of the quintessential guitarists of the modern era with a highly prolific solo career beyond his earlier forays with the megastar rock group The Police. Continuing on with a world wide career of concerts and recording Andy indulges his own longstanding passion for photography along the way in unusual and dangerous places.
