Description
Growing Up to Be President Discussion Guide
§ Knowledge acquisition is the #1 factor contributing to students' reading comprehension growth.
§ Individual so-called "comprehension skills" have NO correspondence to any thinking processes, according to cognitive psychology.
§ The only way for students to gain knowledge is to discuss what they've read, which helps them process new concepts and ideas.
§ Class discussions move new knowledge into long-term memory, where it becomes an active support for reading comprehension.
