Future Power System Elements, Challenges, and Solutions

Gevork B. Gharehpetian received his PhD degree in electrical engineering from Tehran University, Tehran, Iran. As a PhD student, he received a scholarship from DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and he was with High Voltage Institute of RWTH Aachen, Aachen, Germany. He has been Assistant Professor then Full Professor at Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT) since 1997. He has been selected for numerous awards as a distinguished researcher from groups such as Ministry of Science Research and Technology (MSRT) and Iranian Association of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IAEEE). Prof. Gharehpetian is a senior member and member of CIGRE, IEEE and IAEEE, respectively. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of IAEEE, and has contributed to numerous works from international publishers of repute. His teaching and research interests include Smart Grid, Microgrids, Distributed Generation, FACTS and HVDC Systems, Monitoring of Power Transformers and its Transients.

Dr. Zolfaghari is currently an Adjunct Research Professor at the Electrical Engineering Department, Amirkabir University of Technology, Iran, and a Power System Control and Stability Engineer at the Iran Grid is currently a Power System Control and Stability Engineer at the Iran Grid Management Company, Iran and an Adjunct Research Professor at the Electrical Engineering Department, Amirkabir University of Technology, Iran. Dr. Zolfaghari has contributed to numerous books and publications. He is an Editor for the Journal of Advanced Research in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Australia, and the Journal of Electrical Science & Engineering, Singapore, as well as a member of the Iranian Inventors Association, IEEE, and ICEO. His research interests include smart grids, renewable energy, and analysis and robust control of complex and uncertain systems. Management Company, Iran. Dr. Zolfaghari is an author or co-author of five books and over 30 technical papers. He is an Editor for the Journal of Advanced Research in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Australia, and the Journal of Electrical Science & Engineering, Singapore, as well as a member of the Iranian Inventors Association, IEEE, and ICEO. His research interests include smart grids, renewable energy, and analysis and robust control of complex and uncertain systems. Dr. Navid Bayati received an M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology, Tehran, in 2017. He graduated with a Ph.D. in Power Systems from the Department of Energy Technology, Aalborg University, Denmark, in November 2020, and has been involved in research with Loughborough University, UK. Then, he joined the University of Southern Denmark as a Postdoctoral researcher in March 2021, on the protection of Microgrids by dSPACE and OPAL-RT. He continued his research as an Assistant Professor on power system protection at the University of Southern Denmark from 2022 and started an Associate Professorship in 2025 on power systems. His research interests are power systems, microgrids, and fault detection and location of renewable energy resource-based systems.
