Genesis

This is an abridgement of the first book of the Bible covering all its major narratives, from the Creation to the settlement of the Israelites. An introduction details the history of the book's interpretation and its influence on later literature. The Book of Genesis begins with the depiction of God creating the cosmos, and ends with the story of Joseph and the settlement of the Israelites in Egypt. These narratives, along with the intervening stories of Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Noah and the Flood, the Tower of Babel, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and Esau, have all had a significant impact on world literature, and have inspired many enduring works of art and music.
