Genome Analysis in Domestic Animals

From the beginning of domestication, man has improved selection in animals by paying attention and care to those characteristics in animals that met his needs for nutrients, labour and protection. Advances in molecular biology are providing knowledge and concepts which are helpful not only to enhance our basic understanding of the genome of domestic animals but also to assess the impact of modern biotechnology in animal production by evaluating its chances and risks. This book is intended to show the different aspects of a growing area in animal breeding largely as reviews, for example analysis of genes and their functions, molecular mechanisms of disease and patentability of genetic inventions. Ranging from basis to application, the book should stimulate progress in the field and interaction between scholars of various disciplines.
