The UNESCO world natural heritage site "Ancient Beech Forests of Germany" - the Grumsin numbers today among the most valuable of world natural heritage sites. The only natural heritage in the world, which is also part of the largest connected lowland beech forest on earth, is of inestimable value to nature, the landscape, people and culture.
Here nature has been left to its own devices for decades. The forest development is distinguished by a wealth of structure, fecund deadwood and an abundance of species that traces the path toward tomorrow's authentic primeval forest.

Dr. Tilo Geisel, Jahrgang 1959, lebt in Paulinenaue im Havelland. Der Diplom-Biologe arbeitet seit 1991 als Referent in der obersten Naturschutzbehörde des Landes Brandenburg. Er hat seit 2009 beruflich intensiv am Nominierungsverfahren der "Alten Buchenwälder Deutschlands" als Weltnaturerbe mitgewirkt. Seit seiner Jugend beschäftigt sich Dr. Geisel in seiner Freizeit mit der Fotografie. Seine fotografischen Schwerpunkte liegen in der Landschafts- und Makrofotografie. Seine Bilder erscheinen regelmäßig im Magazin "Natur Blick", auf Kalendern oder auch in Schulbüchern. Mit eigenen Ausstellungen zu den Themen Wasser und Pflanzenfotografie präsentiert er seine Arbeiten der Öffentlichkeit. Ausdrucksstarke Fotos dokumentieren die reiche Schönheit der Natur, die aber auch gleichzeitig auf die Schutzbedürftigkeit hinweisen.
Dr. Michael Egidius Luthardt, Jahrgang 1957, hat Forstwirtschaft gelernt und studiert. Nach der Wende war er mehr als 10 Jahre in der Verwaltung des UNESCO-Biosphärenreservates Schorfheide-Chorin tätig, das er einige Zeit leitete. Dr. Luthardt lebt in Chorin und ist seit 2009 Abgeordneter des Landtages Brandenburg. Seit der Unterschutzstellung 1990 beobachtet er die Entwicklung des Buchenwaldes Grumsin hin zu einem Urwald und hat zu diesem Thema zahlreiche Veröffentlichungen publiziert. Dr. Luthardt hat maßgeblich die Nominierung des Grumsin als UNESCO-Weltnaturerbe initiiert und begleitet. Heute engagiert er sich ehrenamtlich in der Region für dieses Projekt. Dr. Luthardt ist seit seiner Kindheit in der Freizeit fotografisch aktiv und hat mehrere Preise gewonnen. Er begleitet die Naturentwicklungen im Grumsin seit etwa 20 Jahren mit der Kamera.
Roland Schulz, Jahrgang 1960, ist als Diplom-Forstwirt, Natur- und Umweltjournalist den Wäldern seit jeher eng verbunden. Von 1994 bis 2002 lebte er in Groß Ziethen am Südrand des Grumsin, den er auf kleinen und großen Exkursionen erkundete und der für ihn im Laufe der Jahre mit seiner atemberaubenden Achterbahnlandschaft, bunten Graniten, Mooren, Seen und zahlreichen Erlebnissen unter weiten Buchenhallen zum "schönsten Wald der Welt" wurde. Als Journalist und Autor begleitete er den langen Weg des alten Buchenwaldes Grumsin zum UNESCO-Weltnaturerbe. Heute verantwortet der zertifizierte Natur- und Landschaftsführer im Grumsin, Roland Schulz, die Öffentlichkeitsarbeit der Naturwacht Brandenburg.

Dr. Tilo Geisel, born in 1959, lives in Paulinenaue in the Havelland. A qualified biologist since 1991 he has worked as a consultant for the Brandenburg Nature Conservation Department. Since 2009 he has concentrated his professional attentions on the procedures for nominating the "Ancient Beech Forests of Germany" as a World Natural Heritage Site. From his youth he has also been a keen photographer devoted himself to landscape and macro photography. His photographs are regularly published in "Natur Blick" magazine, picture calendars and schoolbooks. He displays his work to the public in his own exhibitions on themes such as water and plant photography. His strongly expressive images document the wealth of nature's beauty but also draw attention to the urgency and need for its protection.
Dr. Michael Egidius Luthardt, born in 1957, has studied and obtained a degree and doctorate in forestry. Following Germany's reunification he worked ten years in administration at Schorheide Chorin, the UNESCO biosphere reserve, which he also headed for a period. Dr. Luthardt resides in Chorin and has been a member of the Brandenburg Parliament since 2009. Since the area came under a protection and preservation order in 1990 he has been observing the development of the beech forest "Grumsin" on its way to becoming a primeval forest and has published numerous works on this topic. Dr. Luthardt gave significant authoritative weight to the nomination of Grumsin as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in both initiating and campaigning for it. Today he devotes his time to the region and the project on a voluntary basis. From childhood on he has been a keen amateur photographer and has won several prizes. His camera has accompanied him and helped record the natural developments of the Grumsin for around 20 years.
Roland Schulz, born in 1960, is closely connected to forests as a graduate forest engineer and nature and environment journalist. From 1994 to 2002 he lived in Groß Ziethen on the southern edge of the Grumsin, which he explored in brief and longer excursions. For him the breath-taking "roller coaster" landscape, its colourful granites, moors and lakes provided such experiences of wonder under the canopy of the broad sweeping halls of beech trees he declared it "the most beautiful forest in the world". As journalist and author he accompanied the ancient beech forest of Grumsin on its way to becoming a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. Today he is head of public relations for Naturwacht Brandenburg. Since short time ago Roland Schulz is a certified nature and landscape grumsin guide.
