Description
In 1947, after fifteen years in India, Will and Flo Sutherland return to England to start a family. The war is over and their new life is just about to begin. But Will feels at odds with the modern world; Flo longs to be a writer, but depression threatens to thwart her dream. Their children, Bea and Fred, are growing up in a brave new world that neither of their parents recognises - a world with free love, drugs, festivals and squats. Through the post-war austerity of the fifties, the rebellious liberation of the sixties and the national unrest of the seventies, the Sutherland family tackle and embrace their rapidly changing world. Spanning four life-altering generations, Sue Gee's new novel is the portrait of a family driven apart in an age of sweeping social transformation, whose love, loyalty and fortitude must bring them back together.
