Gerald De Gaury was a British military officer, an explorer, a historian, a photographer, and a diplomat who first went to Saudi Arabia in 1936, making his last visit in 1965. He accompanied Faisal during his 1943 tour of military establishments in the United Kingdom and acted as interpreter when he met King George VI. He is the author of Arabia Phoenix and Rulers of Mecca. He died in 1984.
