My Vision

In September 2004, the international embargo and sanctions imposed on Libya for more than a decade were raised by the UN Security Council when Colonel Gaddafi announced that Libya would give up its nuclear weapons. In addition he agreed to compensate the families of the victims of the Lockerbie bombing and the attack on the TWA flight that occurred in the late 1980s. This remarkable gesture showed Gaddafi's commitment to seeing Libya rejoin the international community after many years of isolation. In the spirit of reconciliation, Tony Blair flew out to Tripoli declaring that Libya was now an ally in the fight against global terror. How can this reversal be explained? Who is the new Gaddafi? What path of progress will he take to determine the future of his country and can he keep the new spirit of reconciliation alive?
