Description
This expanded edition of the student textbook "Fundamentals of Physical Geography", adopts a systems approach to explain the complex interactions of the natural environment. The nature of Earth and its oceans; the Earth's climate and the potential impact of climate change; the main processes of geomorphology; and elements of ecosystems (soils and vegetation) are all explained. Chapters on sensitive environments are included in this edition - polar, Mediterranean, drylands and humid tropical environments - through which the processes introduced in earlier chapters are explored and human-environment interactions are analyzed. Topical global environmental problems such as global warming, population explosion and pressures of economic development, are discussed throughout.
Reviews / Votes
'The best text for my first-year physical geography courses for over ten years...The authors are to be complimented on their clear and easy style.' - Chris Young, Christchurch University College, Canterbury'If this book had been available during my undergraduate years, it would have saved me a lot of time and effort searching for several texts when this one book would have been sufficient...At such a reasonable price, this book is highly recommended for first year undergraduates who require a broad background in this field.' - International Journal of Environmental Education and Information, Vol 17, No.1, Jan 98
