Die Festschrift zum 60. Geburtstag von Christian Strahm enthält außer einem Schriftenverzeichnis des Jubilars 26 Beiträge, deren räumliches Spektrum von der Iberischen Halbinsel bis zu den Steppen Kasachstans und vom Niger bis Mitteleuropa reicht. Inhaltlich vertreten sind ein ethnoarchäologischer Aufsatz zu Hochzeitskeramik aus Mali, fünfzehn Artikel neolithischen und kupferzeitlichen Inhaltes, acht Beiträge zur Bronzezeit, einer zu prähistorischen Textiltraditionen sowie einer zu römischen Schatzfunden. Unter den Kulturgruppen nehmen Schnurkeramik und Glockenbecherkultur mit fünf Abhandlungen eine zentrale Position ein. Von den Fragestellungen her werden relative und absolute Chronologie, Kontinuität und Kulturwandel, Sozialordnung, Metallurgie, Kleinfunde, Horte, Gräber und Gebäude berührt. Zur absoluten Chronologie werden vor allem neue Fakten für die Megalithik und Schnurkeramik präsentiert. Unter den Gebrauchsgegenständen verdienen mittelneolithische Tonlöffel, älteste Wagen und gemusterte Tonobjekte besondere Erwähnung. Hervorzuheben sind auch gynäkomorphe Wandreliefs des Jungneolithikums.
The volume is dedicated to Christian Strahm on the occasion of his 60th birthday. It contains a list of publications of the honoured and 26 contributions covering a region stretching from the Iberian peninsula to the steppes of Kazakhstan and from the river Niger to Central Europe. With regard to topics, one ethnoarchaeological article deals with marriage pottery from Mali, fifteen papers are dedicated to subjects of the Neolithic and Aeneolithic period, eight contributions refer to the Bronze Age, one is concerned with prehistoric textile traditions and one with Roman treasure finds. Amongst the cultural groups the Corded Ware and Bell Beaker cultures are represented by five chapters and form a focal matter. Other points of interest are the relative and absolute chronology, questions of continuity and cultural change, social orders, metallurgy, small finds, hoards, graves and buildings. Special mentioning among the small finds deserve Middle Neolithic pottery spoons, first wheeled vehicles and decorated pottery objects. Also gynaecomorphous wall plaster reliefs of the Younger Neolithic are discussed.
