Molecular Mechanisms of Hepatic Failure

This text explains how and why the liver malfunctions. Acute and chronic inflammatory states frequently encountered in patients experiencing septic or traumatic events often result in multiple organ dysfunction syndrome and hepatic failure. This text summarizes and presents the large body of information currently accumulating on immunologic, molecular biologic and phenotypic changes associated with hepatocellular dysfunction. It provides insight into this significant research and allows for the development of rational approaches to patient management.
