"Virgil Aeneid IV" unum ex praestantissimis et moventibus carminibus totius litterarum Latinarum orbis exhibet. In hoc libro, Publius Vergilius Maro tragicam historiam Didonis, reginae Carthaginis, et Aeneae, herois Troiani, summa arte depingit. Narratio incipit cum Aeneas, fati necessitate impulsus, ad litora Africae pervenit, ubi Dido eum magno hospitio excipit et amore flagranti capitur. Tamen, monitu deorum et officio erga futuram Romam, Aeneas e Carthagine discedere cogitur, quod ad finem lugubrem reginae ducit.

Hic quartus liber "Aeneidos" non solum certamen inter amorem privatum et officium publicum (pietas) explorat, sed etiam profundam humanitatem et dolorem personarum manifestat. Dido ipsa inter nobilissimas figuras tragicas numeratur, cuius querelae et mors per saecula lectores commoverunt. Per hunc textum, Vergilius vim fati et originem odii inter Romam et Carthaginem explicat. Haec editio, a C.E. Freeman instructa, instrumentum pretiosum est ad intellegendum stilum poeticum et structuram epicam unius e maximis auctoribus antiquitatis. Est opus necessarium omnibus qui litteris classicis, mythologiae, et historiae Romanae student.
