Joseph S. Francisco is the President's Distinguished Professor of Earth and Environmental Science and Professor of Chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania. Joseph trained as a Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge and then returned to Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a Provost Postdoctoral Fellow. He was also a Visiting Associate in Planetary Science at the California Institute of Technology. He is a co-author (with Jeffrey I. Steinfeld and William L. Hase) of the textbook Chemical Kinetics and Dynamics, Second Edition (Pearson, 1989) and has co-authored over 850 journal articles. He has given 580 invited lectures at universities around the world. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences as well as the National Academy of Sciences.
