Practical Statistics for Field Biology

Here is an introduction to statistics with the needs and problems of the field biologist very much in mind. The field biologist faces very particular problems as "real life" situations, such as collecting insects with a sweep net or counting seagulls on a cliff face, can hardly be expected to be as reliable or controllable as a laboratory-based experiment. Acknowledging the peculiarities of field-based data, this book aims to provide biologists with sufficient grounding in statistical principles and methods to enable them to understand research reports in journals, decide on the most appropriate statistical tests for their own problems and finally to analyze and present their findings.
