Description
Meet Sally, a tiny cygnet just about to hatch from her warm egg. After hatching, she is very happy to meet her parents and siblings, and explore her new home. But when it comes time to take her first swim, Sally is frightened and stays behind on the grassy bank, unsure of the water that seems so big and menacing.
While her siblings paddle fearlessly, Sally discovers the joys of the pond in her own way. She makes friends with wise Frog, playful Hedgehog, and Trout, learning a little about their lives and the natural world.
Daddy Swan tries to encourage Sally to swim by taking her for a ride around the pond on his back. Sally loves whizzing around the pond, and soon all her siblings want to join in the fun.
Curiosity leads Sally to explore beyond the pond. On her way to the nearby woods, she meets Deer and Rabbit, who warn her of the clever Fox lurking in the shadows. But Sally's desire to explore gets the better of her, and she finds herself in danger, until a heroic Red Kite swoops in to save the day.
Back at the pond, Sally is told off by her parents for exploring on her own. Then, with guidance from a clever Beaver, who gives Sally a branch to help her float, she is able to practice swimming safely. Soon, Sally discovers the joy of racing through the water, and eventually, she swims on her own, proud of the bravery she never knew she had.
Filled with colourful characters, this is more than just a story about a little cygnet; it is a tale of friendship, self-discovery, and the excitement of exploring the world around us. Children will delight in Sally's adventures and learn that with patience, encouragement, and a little courage, they too can face their fears.
The beautiful watercolour-style illustrations bring Sally's adventure to life and will appeal to readers of all ages.
