Description
An entertaining story from former children's laureate Anne Fine for Egmont's red banana series.
Nicky, Tasha and Joe's mum leaves for work early one day and she leaves instructions for them on a cassette-player - all they have to do is press play! Nicky and Tasha must get themselves ready for school and get baby Joe ready for playgroup without waking Dad! They have to get dressed, make porridge for breakfast and find Joe's toy rabbit. Then they have to creep into Dad's bedroom and set the alarm clock for him. But it is very hard to get ready quietly, especially when your baby brother is crying for his toy rabbit!
Red bananas are chapter books for newly fluent readers, suitable for NC Level 3 readers. They are carefully designed illustrated books for both entertainment and education, supporting children's understanding of how to read longer books. Red bananas introduce similes and wordplay to encourage an understanding of more literary concepts.

Persons
Anne Fine Anne Fine is one of the UK's best-loved authors. She was the Children's Laureate from 2001-2003. She has won the Carnegie Medal twice - in 1989 and 1992 - and the Whitbread Award twice - in 1993 and 1996. She has published over 50 books for children including favourites such as Ivan the Terrible, The Angel of Nitshill Road and How to Write Really Badly. When she was young, it never occurred to Anne Fine that she might be a writer. She thought books were born on the library shelves. But Anne was good at writing stories, and she had a good deal of practice. In 1971 Anne's first daughter was born. Unable to get to the library in a snowstorm to change her library books, in desperation she sat down and started to write a novel. Clearly this was the right job for her, for she has never stopped writing for more than a few weeks since. Joelle Dreidemy Joelle Dreidemy has illustrated books by renowned authors such as Anne Fine and Vivian French. She has also illustrated greeting cards for Waterstone's. Joelle lives in France and she is known to her friends as Jo-Jo!
