Description
In 1939, 14-year-old Edgar Feuchtwanger fled from National Socialist Germany to England. His parents initially stayed behind in Munich. The letters he wrote to them, initially in German and then in English, are published here for the first time. In a conversation with his daughter Antonia Cox, the 100-year-old described how he made the most of his early days in England.
In her foreword, editor Anja Tuckermann describes the lifethreatening situation in Germany and uses additional documents to show how the family got along in England.

Edgar Feuchtwanger, OBE, geboren 1924 in München, ist Historiker und als Autor bekannt für From Weimar to Hitler: Germany, 1918-33 (Zweite Auflage, 1995) und Bismarck. Eine politische Geschichte (Zweite Auflage, 2014), sowie für seine Biographien über Disraeli und Gladstone sowie für Democracy and Empire, 1865-1914 (1985). 2002 erhielt er das Bundesverdienstkreuz und 2021 den Officer of the Order of the British Empire. 2010 erschien seine Autobiographie Erlebnis und Geschichte, mit Bertil Scali schrieb er 2012 Hitler, mon voisin, eine Romanfassung seiner Kindheit, die in viele Sprachen übersetzt wurde.

Antonia Cox studierte Philosophie und Geschichte an der Universität Cambridge. Sie arbeitete als Leitartiklerin beim Daily Telegraph und Evening Standard und als politische Beraterin. Sie ist Vorstandsmitglied der South Downs National Park Authority.
