Dr. Fairhurst is a Professor in the School of Engineering and Digital Arts at the University of Kent. Prof. Fairhurst has authored 375 research papers as well as several books and is currently Editor-in-Chief of the IET Biometrics Journal. He is a Fellow of the International Association for Pattern Recognition. He teaches biometrics and fundamental techniques in image analysis and pattern recognition, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels; playing a leading role in establishing a new Masters Programme in Information Security and Biometrics. Prof. Fairhurst is one of the two UK national representatives on the Management Committee of the COST Action 1106 (Biometrics and Forensics), and its elected Vice-Chair. He is a member of the national Biometrics Working Group, and was invited to join the Government's IPS Experts Group in relation to aspects of IPS work involving biometrics, joining a group of just seven national experts on this committee.
