Providing both a theoretical and practical understanding of contract law doctrine and policy, this casebook offers a balanced blend of conventional casebook style, concise text and practice problems. Extending beyond how to recognize issues and apply legal concepts in class, the authors seek to give students a functional understanding of how to do contract law in the "real world". A diverse blend of cases - including the classics, those containing insightful analysis of important legal issues, and those involving contemporary issues or clauses, such as arbitration - have been carefully selected to capture reader interest, expose students to contract law doctrine, and present practice and policy issues. Introductory text preceding the cases, as well as the problems and questions that follow, invite students to question: why am I reading this case or problem?; what should I be learning from the case or problem?; do I agree with the result?; and how does it relate to the materials already covered?
The accompanying teacher's manual explains the authors' conception of the material and choice of cases; provides the authors' thoughts and a comprehensive analysis of the cases, questions and notes; and suggests a framework for approaching each practice problem.
