An Effective Strategy for Safe Design in Engineering and Construction

This book has three main aims: * To improve the understanding and implementation of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM regulations) in respect of those projects to which they refer, as well as those projects which would benefit from using them as a framework for effective design management. * To promote the reduction of errors during the design process through the implementation of an effective design management strategy. This includes factors introduced in health and safety legislation such as control, communication, cooperation, and competence. * To introduce the concept of safety as an embedded factor in design, rather than a consideration to be introduced at some later stage in a project. This is achieved through demonstrating how safe design can lead to better, more efficient, and more cost-effective outcomes across the spectrum of design projects. The reader will gain an understanding of the design process from initial idea to the validation of the product in service. They will also understand how the CDM regulations 2015 are applicable to most construction projects, irrespective of industry sector. The reader will be shown how the seemingly complex matters of regulation and risk management can be applied practically to projects, through extensive use of illustrations and references. They will also be shown how safety regulation, standards and initiatives all strive for the same goal, i.e. that of achieving the safest output from any given project.
