He attended UCLA on a football and private academic scholarship. He attended UCSF medical school. He did an internship at Los Angeles County Hospital. He was a Navy doctor with the USMC in the Vietnam War. He finished a Urology residency and practiced Urology in Southern California for over 30 years. He has two children and six grandchildren.
