"Active Threads" widmet sich dem Politischen in der zeitgenössischen Textilkunst und ist der Katalog zur gleichnamigen Ausstellung. Acht internationale Künstler_innen stellen die so häufig gebrauchte Metapher des sozialen Bands auf den Prüfstand. Sie thematisieren gesellschaftliche Bruchstellen, geopolitische Konflikte, offenkundige postkoloniale Wunden sowie Beispiele von zivilem Protest und Motive der Fankultur. Vertiefende Essays und ausführliche Texte zu allen Künstler_innen erläutern, wie Textilien zu Katalysatoren sozialer und kultureller Prozesse werden können.
"Active Threads", the book accompanying the eponymous exhibition, is devoted to the political aspects inherent in contemporary textile art. Eight artists challenge the often-cited metaphor of the social fabric. They address social ruptures, geopolitical conflicts, overt post-colonial wounds, along with examples of civil protest and motifs of fan culture. In-depth essays and extensive texts on all participating artists describe the role textiles can play as catalysts of social and cultural processes.
