Description
This book is a comprehensive guide to total quality inspection in welding. The book begins with an introduction to total quality inspection, the needs for inspection and the nature of flaws and defects. The interim chapters define the concept of total quality inspection and non-destructive testing methods particularly: NDT, NDE and NDI. The author compares these with destructive methods. The reader is then introduced to more conventional methods i.e. penetrant testing, magnetic particle testing, eddy-current inspection, radiography, ultrasonics, and acoustic emission. Special methods are then defined: Flux leakage, alternating current field measurement, fluoroscopy, time of flight diffraction, creeping wave ultrasonics, phased array ultrasonics, as well as automated methods: digital radiography, ultrasonic imaging. Other methods are visual inspection, replication, and risk-based inspection. The book also addresses training, qualification and safety. The author introduces the reader to a three level approach to implementing total quality inspection. The book is supported by several practical case studies.
