On Monday August 24, 1992, the night that Hurricane Andrew slammed into southern Florida, a man drove to the most western fringes of Miami to shovel dirt onto a shallow grave. It was 18 months since a British businessman from Kent had vanished in Miami to the disbelief of his devoted wife and loving family, and the fourth time that this man had returned to the grave. The Evidence Room of the police department in Miami houses what is probably the world's largest collection of case files of unsolved murders; row upon row of neatly-labelled boxes containing the evidence from more than 1500 "Cold Cases" dating back to 1951. Ten years ago, in an attempt to deal with the backlog, the "Cold Case Squad" was established - their pledge to "never quit". So far the squad has "closed by resolution" more than 100 previously unsolved mysteries. This is the story of the most intriguing of them all: Cold Case Number 110.
